In a study by SOS Children’s Villages international, approximately 5.6 million children live in Ecuador, but only one in five children grow up in a household free from neglect or abuse. In efforts to help children and families in Ecuador, Maestro Cares Foundation is supporting Aldeas Infantiles SOS Ecuador by funding the construction of Casa en Comunidad: Maestro Cares House. The interim home for abused, abandoned and neglected children is a temporary placement and care facility for children in a protective state who have been separated from their families. Aldeas Infantiles SOS Ecuador seeks to preserve, improve and strengthen family ties, prevent abandonment and seek the reinsertion of the children or adolescents into their biological families.

Since 2015 we have maintained a strategic partnership with MABA, with the goal of providing children with high quality education and resources in Peru. As classrooms have all moved to digital platforms, teachers at Kari Grande in Cusco, Peru have adapted to digital learning and have implemented dynamic and inclusive ways of engaging all students to ensure that no student is left behind.
 

On April 6th, Peru’s Department of Education initiated a national campaign, “Aprendo en Casa,” with the goal of ensuring that every child has access to education through daily programming that is accesible via television, radio and smartphones. Teachers at MABA have implemented the program into their curriculum, and have worked closely with the students to ensure cooperation. MABA has also provided teachers with resources to help them navigate the online classroom by providing online webinars that empower teachers to work with confidence and efficiency.  

While the conditions that children face at home varies per family, teachers are working hard to stay by every student’s side, and ensuring that their right to education is honored.
