Centro de Desarrollo Integral Aldeas Infantiles SOS

Aldeas Infantiles SOS Colombia Centro de Desarrollo Familiar, opened in February 2019. This community center offers participants, families and the SOS community with guidance through trainings, activities and empowerment programs. The program’s primary purpose is to prevent children from being separated from their families. Aside from the constructionof the community center, Maestro Cares Foundation repaired the 17 roofs to all current Aldeas homes and built a kitchen to serve meals to the local community.

Aldeas Infantiles SOS is the largest international organization for direct care of children, and they are present in 135 countries. They began their work in Colombia 50 years ago and since then have focused on offering a family-based model, to welcome thousands of children, adolescents and young adults who have been separated from their biological families. They also accompany families at social risk to develop capacities to adequately protect their children.

Benefited population: More than 500 families.

In Colombia, 45% of the population lives below the poverty line. Although the country possesses much wealth, it is shared very unequally and conditions are aggravated by the regular armed conflicts and frequent natural disasters it faces.
