Recently, our team visited our projects throughout Guatemala! They visited the Centro de Desarrollo Integral Aldeas Infantiles SOS Guatemala in San Juan Sacatepéquez. We are happy to report that this community center continued providing services and programs throughout the pandemic and are back operating at 50% capacity. Aldeas Infantiles SOS and the communities they serve are excited to be able to attend new programs and look forward to the center returning to full capacity in the coming months!
While in Guatemala they also visited Escuelas Palo Verde located in Jalapa. These schools have been closed since the pandemic began and recently re-opened at a reduced capacity. To ensure children did not fall further behind in school they opened classes for students to attend in the morning and evening both at a 50% capacity. They look forward to increasing their capacity for the upcoming school year.
Our team also traveled to Puerto Rico to visit our project in Ponce, Hogar San Miguel. This boy’s home is for disadvantaged boys who have mild to moderate special needs. We are happy to report that boys are doing great! They just wrapped up the school year and are currently on summer break. As an end of year outing, they will be attending the Cangrejeros de Santurce basketball game and basketball clinic later this month! While in Puerto Rico, they also took some time to visit several other organizations and see the great work that they are doing across Puerto Rico. We hope to be able to confirm a new project here soon.
Thank you to our project partners in Guatemala and Puerto Rico for their hospitality. We can't wait to visit again!
