Covenant House
Tegucigalpa, Honduras
Maestro Cares Foundation partnered with Covenant House to expand the operations of Hogar Querubines shelter for girls in Tegucigalpa, Honduras by funding the purchase of a spacious new house.
The larger facility now welcomes 30 girls ages 12 to 18, a 50% increase in capacity compared to the previous house. The new location also features outdoor and indoor recreational areas, green spaces, and administrative offices.
Hogar Querubines provides trauma-informed care to girls who are survivors of sexual abuse and human trafficking. While there, girls have access to both physical and mental health services, sex education, spiritual guidance, and legal protections. The primary objectives are to reunite the girls with their families and to help them reintegrate into their communities.
Hogar Querubines is, “a warm, supportive environment. Our youth are in a place where they can be kids, where they have the safety to do that. That’s Covenant House’s relentless care and support, which are so critical to addressing trauma,” says Carolyn Barker-Villena, the Covenant House Latin America programs lead in 2023.
