Fundación Pérez Scremini

Maestro Cares Foundation funded the acquisition of essential CAR-T medical equipment for Fundación Pérez Scremini, a foundation treating children and adolescents with cancer in Montevideo, Uruguay. These contributions are to benefit the creation of a CAR-T Therapy (Chimeric Antigen Receptor T-Cell) Department. The groundbreaking therapy implements a personalized treatment for blood cell lymphomas by modifying a patient's own T-cells to target and eliminate cancer cells. The center is the first to offer this life-saving treatment in Uruguay and supports over 2,000 young patients annually.

In Phase II, titled “Laboratorio de Biología Molecular,” MCF is funding the expansion of the Molecular Biology Laboratory, consisting of a new second-floor laboratory area totaling 136 m², including dedicated laboratory spaces, cold storage and sample preservation areas, supply storage rooms, a technical office, support and backup areas, and controlled-access circulation spaces. The expansion will enable comprehensive molecular diagnostics for all patients, reduce diagnostic turnaround times by approximately 30%, increase study processing capacity by 40%, and improve overall operational efficiency. By addressing these critical gaps, the project ensures faster, more accurate diagnoses, supports personalized treatments, and ultimately improves clinical outcomes for children and adolescents with cancer nationwide.

Fundación Pérez Scremini operates the Pediatric Hemato-Oncology program in Hospital Pereira Rossell. They offer treatment free of charge to children from low-income backgrounds. Their services are comprehensive, including medical consultations, medications, hospital stays and meals, mental health support, treatment research, and transportation.
