#StrongerTogether: Our response to COVID-19 in Colombia

Like many countries in Latin America, families in Colombia find themselves in a vulnerable situation, as COVID-19 spreads across the country. The need for food and medical supplies is dire during these unprecedented times. That’s why Maestro Cares Foundation partnered with Arena Bogotá to donate over 1,600 food baskets for families in the communities of Cota and Suba in Bogotá, Colombia. These communities, which neighbor Arena Bogotá on Callé 80, are struggling with high unemployment rates. Follow Maestro Cares Foundation on social media this week for live updates and news on the distribution of the food baskets! You can also help our COVID-19 initiatives by making a donation on our website. #ArenaBogotáCalle80

Our Children Around the World:
Guatemala

Our children around the world mini-series continues this month with a spotlight on Guatemala!

After the construction of the Community Center for the Integral Development & Growth of children and families in San Juan Sacatepequez, Maestro Cares Foundation once again teamed up with Fundacíon Tigo to remodel and reconstruct three schools in Palo Verde, Jalapa, Guatemala. When we initially visited the schools, we noticed the abhorrent conditions of each one. Classrooms were partially constructed and the bathrooms were unsuitable for the hundreds of students the schools served. We believe that every child and adolescent has a right to education and schools that facilitate healthy and empowered students. The Palo Verde schools opened in September 2019 and they continue serving 4,500 families in the community. Take a look at the before and after pictures below, and check out this month’s episode of #OurChildren Around the World: Guatemala, featuring our first project in San Juan Sacatepéquez, Guatemala. Don’t forget to follow us on social media as we spend the rest of the month highlighting our projects in Guatemala!

Project Update:
Costa Rica

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, we are thrilled to share that the land for our project in Costa Rica was purchased this week! We partnered up with the Hovde Foundation to support Face of Justice and fund the construction of the Casa Libertad, a home for young girls who have been trafficked or sexually exploited.
