Aldeas Infantiles SOS Ecuador
Quito, Ecuador
Maestro Cares Foundation (MCF) collaborated with Aldeas Infantiles SOS (Aldeas) for our first project in Ecuador, building a transitional home for children experiencing abandonment, neglect, and abuse. The facility spans an acre in the capital, Quito, where it provides refuge for 6-8 children as they undergo a restorative journey of 6 months to 2 years.
Casa en Comunidad, which means at home in the community, is unique for its integration within the children’s original neighbourhoods. The usual Aldeas model provides services within a campus, or “village,” that becomes its own community. The integration model enables Aldeas to work closely with the children’s families and communities of origin.
Aldeas’ mission is to strengthen family bonds and prevent child abandonment. If children can return to live with their families, Aldeas helps them adapt to the change. This commitment underscores our dedication to creating healthy and safe environments for children to live, learn and play.
Aldeas Infantiles SOS and SOS Children’s Villages are the same international non-profit organization, with Aldeas Infantiles SOS being the name used in Spanish-speaking countries. It is an international non-profit organization active in 135 countries, including 20 in Latin America and the Caribbean. Since opening Casa en Comunidad, MCF has also partnered with Aldeas to establish a family and community center in Quitumbe, Quito.
