#OurChildrenAroundTheWorld: Ecuador

This month's #OurChildrenAroundTheWorld series brings us to Quito, Ecuador!

Maestro Cares Foundation is supporting Aldeas Infantiles SOS Ecuador by funding the construction of a Casa en Comunidad, an interim home for abused, abandoned and neglected children.

This temporary housing placement will serve as a care facility for children who have been separated from their families. Throughout their stay, Aldeas lnfantiles SOS Ecuador will seek to preserve, improve and strengthen family ties, prevent abandonment and seek the re-insertion of the child or adolescent into their biological family.

We are excited to announce that after a year of planning, the first stone was officially laid at Casa en Comunidad this past month! We look forward to seeing the final outcome and the impact that this home will have on the children in Quito!

World Central Kitchen & Maestro Cares Foundation join forces again, this time in Guatemala!

We can not be happier to be partnering with World Central Kitchen to renovate and provide safe and upgraded kitchens to schools throughout Guatemala! World Central Kitchen is an organization whose mission is to use the power of food to nourish communities and strengthen economies through times of crisis and beyond.

Maestro Cares Foundation and World Central Kitchen are coming together once again to provide seven schools with fully functional kitchens! These kitchens will serve as training centers for the schools. The community will have the opportunity to use them to learn about cooking with and maintaining liquid propane gas (LPG) fueled stoves.  Common kitchen practices in Guatemala currently include wood stoves, which are known to produce harmful toxins that can increase the risk of major health complications.

Not only will these schools receive upgraded kitchens, but they will also have the opportunity to participate in World Central Kitchen's Food Handling and Sanitation Program! The curriculum will include a six-module course designed to train cooks in a variety of culinary skills and core knowledge needed for better management and operations of small institutional kitchens.

In its completion this project will benefit over 4,200 students throughout Guatemala, producing over 763,200 meals per school year! We’re so excited for the impact this new initiative will have on the schools and communities in Guatemala!

Goya Foods groundbreaking cause with a surprise!

On Tuesday July 27, Goya Foods held a groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the new expansion to their Bolingbrook facility. During the ceremony President & CEO of Goya Foods, Bob Unanue, pledged $50,000 towards Maestro Cares Foundation’s project in San Jose, Costa Rica. This pledge is part of a larger $2M pledge towards ending child trafficking.

Our inaugural project in Costa Rica with Face of Justice, Casa Libertad: Hovde & Maestro Cares Foundation, will be a home and immediate care center for young girls who have been trafficked or sexually exploited. Thanks to, Face of Justice, this home will serve as a space where girls can heal from their past traumas and learn to trust again in a well-rounded environment.

A HUGE thanks to Goya Foods and Board Member, Bob Unanue, for continuing to support our mission of improving the quality of life for disadvantage children and communities in Latin America and the United States.
