On October 3rd Maestro Cares Executive Director, Zaidy Cardenas and Programs and Fundraising Manager Ulises Zatarian visited Internado Monseñor Victor Tamayo in Barranquilla, Colombia. They were received by the Alcaldía (Mayor’s Office), the Claret Foundation, and joined by the children from the orphanage as well as community children participating in the James Rodriguez soccer camp. The staff at the Internado prepared a wonderful and heartwarming ceremony for them. The event was kicked off with a welcoming speech by Leyla Yidios Char, Site Director for the Internado Monseñor Victor Tamayo, and followed by a powerful speech by the First Lady of Barranquilla Katia Nule Marino. One of the children at the Internado delivered a moving speech thanking Maestro Cares and its partners for the support it has given the home. Finally, the day was closed with a lively cultural presentation of music and dance performed by talented children from the Internado. This event would not have been possible without the support of our local partners: Fundación Pacific, Fundación Technoglass, and Goya. We thank them for their generous ongoing support. The Internado Monseñor Victor Tamayo currently houses 48 children. Within the next year that number will be expanded to serve 96 orphaned or displaced children.
