Development Director


The Director of Development will report to the Executive Director. The Director of Development creates and oversees the implementation of a strategic approach to fundraising which may include major gifts, corporate donations, grant solicitation, and in-kind resources. This position is available as a full-time position.



  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors and Executive Director to create a fund development plan which increases revenues to support the strategic direction of the organization
  • Monitor and evaluate all fundraising activities to ensure that the fundraising goals are being achieved
  • Monitor trends in the community or region and adapt fundraising strategies as necessary
  • Work with the management team and communication coordinator on a communications plan that integrates with overall development and outreach strategy


  • Develop and manage timelines for various fundraising activities to ensure strategic plans and critical fundraising processes are carried out in a timely manner
  • Develop policies and procedures for the Development Department which reflect ethical fundraising practices
  • Develop a major gifts program focused on the engagement of individuals which includes the identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of individuals
    • Identify and establish a professional working relationship with potential international and national business prospects and other stakeholders to collaborate on Maestro Cares Foundation projects by developing an understanding of their unique business needs and how it relates to Maestro Cares Foundation work
  • Develop a corporate giving strategy and program including overseeing the preparation and submission of letters of inquiry and grant applications

  • Oversee the planning and execution of special fundraising events
  • Ensure stewardship of donors and funders occurs including:
    • The generation, cultivation and management of relationships with existing donors and funders, including incorporating acknowledgement and recognition into communication activities
  • Oversee the administration of a donor mailing list and database which respects the privacy and confidentiality of donor information
  • Coordinate in-kind donations and make decisions regarding the issuing of receipts
  • Report to board and management on business development and fundraising initiatives on a regular basis


  • Execute fundraising and development plans
  • Utilize Moves Management system to “move” prospects, suspects and donors towards making a gift
  • Solicit donors, prospects and suspects for financial donations


  • In consultation with the Executive Director, recruit, interview, and select well-qualified development staff
  • Lead and manage the Development Department and Team including the Development Specialist
  • Work with Events Specialist to engage volunteers for special fund development projects using established volunteer management practices
  • Develop and gain approval for an annual income and expenditure budget for the fund development program
  • Prepare, as requested and determined, regular reports on progress, budgets, receipts and expenditure related to fundraising and the management of the fund development activities
  • Monitor expenses and analyze budget reports on fund development and recommend changes as necessary


  • Foster and build a culture of philanthropy within the organization and to supporters
  • Work with the management team and communication staff to develop a comprehensive communications and marketing plan that integrates with overall development plan and outreach strategy which promotes MCF to donors while maximizing public awareness of the fundraising activities of the organization
  • Build relationships with corporate and community stakeholders as well as project contacts to advance the mission and fundraising goals of the organization
  • Support and attend all organization events as assigned

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Must have nonprofit experience or knowledge of nonprofit practices
  • 4-10 years related work-experience – major gift work, corporate and foundation engagement, special events, business and sponsorship development, grant writing, presentations and project management
  • Proven ability to drive incremental revenue, create new relationships, nurture existing relationships and build loyalty
  • Knowledge of fundraising management, special events planning and management
  • Must be fully bi-lingual – Spanish/English
  • Proficiency in fundraising database platforms, preferably Salesforce
  • Knowledge of databases, spreadsheets
  • Demonstrated ability to close deals
  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills
  • Active listener with ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with diverse audiences
  • Must be able to write/edit/proofread
  • Must be willing and able to travel locally and regionally to conduct business, and occasional travel within the U.S. and abroad; travel – up to 50% (passport required)
  • Ability to handle some flexible hours (some evenings/weekends)
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in different independently and as integral member of team
  • Strong knowledge Microsoft Office applications


  • Advanced Degree preferred (Masters in Philanthropy and Development, Business, Public Affairs, Social Work, Law, or Policy)
  • Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) designation is an asset
  • Knowledge of crowdfunding and peer to peer fundraising platforms preferred
  • Ability/desire to learn other software programs as needed

MCF offers a competitive salary commensurate with applicant’s skills and experience. The successful candidate will be hired on a contract basis and become a MCF employee pending a 3-month review.

The Maestro Cares Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to assisting and creating healthy and safe environments for disadvantaged children throughout Latin America. Founded in 2012 by international pop icon, Marc Anthony and renowned entrepreneur, Henry Cárdenas the foundation has provided housing, classrooms, health clinics, dining, and recreational activities. To date, 11 projects have been initiated in 8 locations.
