We hope Summer 2019 has been as productive for you as it has been for MCF!
In this edition of our newsletter, we have some exciting updates to share. We would like to bring you up to date on our Summer Enrichment Program beneficiary, Goya’s mentor trip, new projects and much more!
RICARDO’S CHICAGO ADVENTURE!
Meet Ricardo, our first Summer Enrichment Program beneficiary from our project in Barranquilla, Colombia. Ricardo spent over a month in Chicago learning English and exploring the city. During his time here, Ricardo experienced all the beauty that the city has to offer with the Maestro Cares team and his host family.
Ricardo says the experience was “a dream come true.” His favorite memories from the trip are spending time with his host family and attending the Gold Cup Finals between USA and Mexico.
Though Ricardo has now returned to Barranquilla, Colombia, he hopes to continue pursuing his studies in Psychology with the end goal of someday returning to the United States to work. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for Ricardo!
GOYA MENTOR TRIP RECAP
On July 10th, MCF Staff and Goya Food Mentors traveled to the Orfanato Niños de Cristo in La Romana, Dominican Republic to meet with the children they mentor now for the fifth consecutive year. The children, aged 4-18 years, participated in activities where they bonded and enjoyed time with their mentors and staff. Some notable activities that sparked creativity and imagination during the four-day trip included karaoke, a “Chopped” inspired cooking challenge, creating a Goya Mosaic and a graduation party for the new high school graduates. The children were overjoyed to have been able to spend quality time with their Goya Mentors.
We would like to send a special thank you to our partner Goya Foods for changing the lives of these children. We can’t wait for next year’s trip!
