About Maestro Cares Foundation
While in the Dominican Republic, Zaidy Cárdenas began volunteering at a local orphanage that for years had provided a loving environment for young orphan girls, despite having limited resources. Increasingly, the orphanage was receiving requests to house young boys, but they had inadequate space to house them. One day, she visited the quarters where the boys were and found 40+ boys living in a two bedroom house. She immediately engaged her family and her father, Henry Cardenas, to find a solution. Henry reached out to his longtime friend Marc Anthony who visited the orphanage and he too felt compelled to find a way to serve this vulnerable children.
In January 2012, Maestro Cares Foundation was founded to help rescue and provide critical resources to impoverished children in Latin American. Later that year, construction began on its first project: a new home for the boys, Orfanato Niños de Cristo. In March 2014, and the foundation opened the doors to the new orphanage which currently houses 47 boys with capacity up to 100. The need and success of the first project, led to the development of the next two new projects in Barranquilla, Colombia and the MABA project in Peru. In March 2015, Maestro Cares continues to move ahead strong already breaking ground in its 4th project, an orphanage in Toluca, Mexico.
It has been the shared vision of its founders; global music icon Marc Anthony and Henry Cárdenas and his family, to create a healthy and safe environment for vulnerable children with an emphasis on supporting their educational needs. It is the belief that our programs create tomorrows’ leaders by instilling the confidence, enthusiasm, and discipline necessary for these children to become hard-working, socially conscious adults that make a positive impact in the world throughout their own unique contributions.
